Three themes
run through the Unit:
- The use of microorganisms by man as an ancient
practice. Only very recently has scientific and technical change
persuaded us to introduce a new term: 'biotechnology';
- Case studies illustrating the historical
development of biotechnology - e.g. bread-making, penicillin
production, environmental management;
- In each case scientific, historical and economic
aspects are presented.
The Unit covers
milestones in history and the main scientific and technological
discoveries in fields linked to what is now called biotechnology.
NEW: Now includes Saccaromicio,
a cartoon history of yeast (part 2 above). |
